Ellias Mallet de Rocha Barros, 1999

Dr. Ellias Mallet de Rocha Barros is a Training Analyst and Supervisor of the Sao Paulo Pyscho-Analytical Society, member of the Faculty of the Institute of Sao Paulo Psycho-Analytical Society, and a full member of the British Psycho-Analytical Society.

He is a leading psychoanalytic theoretician in Brazil who is highly respected throughout Latin America and Europe. He has distinguished himself as editor of the Brazil Journal of Psychoanalysis, the Portuguese edition of the Annual of Psychoanalysis, as editor for South America of the International Journal of Psycho-Analysis, in addition to serving on the editorial boards of several other journals. He is the author of numerous papers on the psychoanalytic observation of infant development, on Kleinian theory, on the psychoanalytic approach to severe depression, and on psychoanalytic technique. He has also been writing on aggression, creativity, and countertransference. He s a most thoughtful and profound critic of psychoanalytic literature, and has contributed single-handedly to increase the level of psychoanalytic discourse in Brazil. A number of his many papers have been published in several languages, including English, French, Spanish and German.
