Joyce McDougall, 2001

Joyce McDougall is a brilliant psychoanalytic clinician and educator whose many books have found widespread reception because of her elegant linkage of French psychoanalysis with the British and American tradition as well as her creative application of psychoanalytic theory to the understanding of patients with psychosomatic illness and perversion. A clinician with extraordinary sensitivity, a superb writer and educator, her books, Theater of the Body and Theater of the Mind, have been followed by the excellent Many Faces of Eros.

Her writings served to bring French psychoanalysis current with the clinical application of Didieu Anzieu’s concept of the skin ego, and include her own work on addictive sexualities, her contributions to the study of female sexuality and her own original writings on creativity.
