He took over as Director of the Psychoanalysis Unit and Freud Memorial Professor at UCL in 1992 and enlarged the Unit, which now houses three psychoanalytic masters programs, one in collaboration with Yale University, as well as a PhD program. He and his fellow directors of the Anna Freud Centre (Professors Target and Mayes) have built strong collaborative ties between the Anna Freud Centre and UCL, and UCL degree programs now take place in both settings. Peter has published widely with over 300 peer reviewed papers, 28 books and 180 chapters. He has several active research programs focused on attachment research and studies on the effectiveness of psychotherapy.
